Astrological Sabbat Dates A choice for more powerful rituals.

For years I have personally observed the Astrological Timing of the Sabbat Dates for various reasons.
Most importantly is "As Above, So Below."
This saying tells us that as it is in the astrological plane so it is upon the Earth. The energies of the astrological plane inform and enhance our workings. As an Horary Astrologer timing was an important lesson that was drilled into my by my venerable teacher, Christopher Warnock. Timing of the understanding of the reader for the question being asked is essential. For in that moment the Universe is echoing an answer to the question that the reader can interpret.
The making of talismans and the understanding of the Universe are all ruled by the timing of the event . The Universe is echoing back to us everything we need to know if we will listen and study and observe.
When my coven got going over 10 years ago, I brought with me this use of this astrological timing because the timing for an eclectic coven who is also above all a practical coven is very advantageous. Take for example, Samhain. Many who have children want to celebrate Halloween with Trick or Treating and parties. If, as a coven, you only meet on October 31st, then your families must chose which is most important: making memories with their children OR spiritual development. I firmly believe that no one should be forced to make this choice. If you observe the astrological date, then October 31st is always free to make memories and the event for Samhain moves to November 7 or 8 depending upon the year. The timing ensures that the veil is thin and the celestial dance in the heavens is reflecting the appropriate energies for the event.
Practically it also opens other weekends for us to be near the astrological timing and potent energies.
I also do this as a matter of honor. My teacher Richard Sells, Lord Manawyddan, taught me the importance of astrological timing of the events and observe those. He also gave the above reasons for his adherence to them. Now whenever the I see an astrologically timed date, I think of him and what he gave me. From his approval of my current coven structure and making to his ratifying me as a High Priestess in his later years after observation of my actual work as a High Priestess.
The problem with astrological timing is figuring out WHEN that timing is. The Astrological Dates adhere to a 0° to 15° timing of the house the sabbat falls into. Below is that listing.
Sabbat | Traditional Dates | Astrological Timing |
Samhain | Oct 31 | 15° Scorpio |
Yule | Dec 21 – 22 | 0° Capricorn |
Imbolc | Feb 1 – 2 | 15° Aquarius |
Ostara | March 19 – 23 | 0° Aries |
Beltane | May 1 | 15° Taurus |
Litha | June 20 – 22 | 0° Cancer |
Lammas | August 1 | 15° Leo |
Mabon | Sept. 22 – 23 | 0° Libra |
As the use of the Astrological Dates has fallen out of favor figuring out when they are has become significantly more difficult. Until today!
Trying to find a source, once again, I came across this handy calculator at Astro Seek. You simply put in the year, the astrological timing and you can easily have access to the Sabbat Dates. I AM THRILLED. I quickly calculated the dates for the next five years.
But calculating the timing of the Sabbats isn't all this ephemeris is good for. You can also calculate timing for spell working by putting in the most advantageous of astrological timing and seeing when that will be. What a powerful tool for Witches.
